Itching/Dog
Question: My dog is biting its leg
and it is getting red and kind of like
a blister. What should I do. Is this signs of a hotspot. And if
not what
is a hot spot?,
ANSWER: Any itching can be a sign of numerous problems, especially if your dog is mutilating itself (or its skin). Please get to your veterinarian so the cause can be ascertained and proper treatment can be started. Your pet is suffering if it is itching that much. Hotspots can have numerous causes ranging from a staph infection, parasites, allergies, fungal infections, internal parasites, etc. Hot spots are a moist inflammation of the skin (often in vet lingo referred to as "moist dermatitis"). Treatment can involve antibiotics, steroids, shampoos, conditioners, etc. (and treatment of the underlying problems) based on the cause. Good luck!
