Question: Are vaccinations available
for owners to give instead of paying high prices for the vet to
give the shot? If so where do you get them and how? Thank you.
ANSWER: I do not personally recommend
vaccinating your own pets, as you are not educated in recognizing
subclinical disease which can result in poor immune response to
vaccines, or may make your animal sicker (if harboring a subclinical
virus/infection/metabollic problem). Also, you are not prepared
to handle acute vaccination reactions such as anaphylactic shock--that
is life threatening and can kill your animal within 20 minutes
post-vaccination. Also, there are certain guidelines for the safe
and proper handling of biologics that if not followed properly,
your vaccines may be rendered ineffective or even detrimental
to your pet. With all of the available vaccination clinics--I
see no reason to not use them. Check your local Petco stores for
a vaccination clinic near you. Also, in most states rabies can
only be given by a licensed veterinarian--by law. With pet ownership
comes responsibility and that includes a financial obligation
to keep your pets healthy and insure PROPER veterinary care. Good
luck!
