Question: Which vaccinations are necessary for my cat, which recommended and how often should she be vaccinated? (I have just arrived from the UK)
CS - Sunnyvale.

ANSWER: Rabies is required by law in California. Feline Leukemia testing is highly recommended for all cats that have not been previously tested (as leukemia can be transmitted through milk and blood of the mother cat to her kittens and through bite wounds and contact with other cats). If your cat is negative for feline leukemia and will go outdoors AT ALL (yes, even just for a few minutes, on a leash, or just on a balcony or porch) we recommend vaccinating against feline leukemia which is two vaccines a month apart. Also, the upper respiratory vaccination is a combination vaccine that vaccinates against all common upper respiratory viruses such as Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Feline Panleukopenia (Distemper), Feline Chlamydia Virus, and Felive Calici Virus. I strongly recommend this vaccination as well, which will need to be given twice; also a month apart. Good luck! Check with your local Petco stores and on our website for a location of the nearest Vetco vaccination clinic in your area!
