Question: I have a six month old male cat, which just recently I had spayed. He is very obsessed with food and has become a terror around the house, jumping on counters, stealing food getting in the trash cans and eating a lot. I To try and curb this habit by feeding him more than my other cat. He eats about 10 ounces or so of wet food a day plus all the dry he wants and still wants more. I try to discipline him but nothing works. Speaking in a deep tone, using a watergun and loud noises or paper to distract him. What can I do to make him stop. I Love him very much and would never give him up!

ANSWER: : First of all, male cats are "neutered" and female cats are "spayed". A cat with this kind of obsession with food may have a metabollic problem such as diabetes mellitus or insipidus that may cause the cat to be very, very hungry and resort to "stealing" food, etc. I advise a complete physical examination and some blood work to make sure that the cat does not have a medical condition that can result in a ravenous appetite. Also, a fresh (24 hours) stool should be brought in and checked microscopically by your veterinarian to rule out any parasites that may be "robbing" your cat of its nutrition. Good luck!
