Who Owns Who in Pet Food?

According to a recent article in Veterinary Practice News Magazine, February, 2001 Nestle, S.A., is looking at buying Ralston Purina the makers of many different lines of pet food such as Friskies, Dr. Ballard's, CNM Purina Veterinary Diets (formerly CNM-Clinical Nutritional Management), etc. Though the deal isn't signed yet, it looks pretty promising according to the article.

Here is a listing of the major conglomerates and the foods that they own and manufacture:

Colgate-Palmolive: Hill's Science Diet, Hill's Prescription
H.J. Heinz: Nine Lives, Nature's Recipe, Innovative VetDiets
Mars: Pedigree, Kal-Kan, Waltham
Nestle: Friskies, Alpo, Purina, Purina Vet. Diets
Procter & Gamble: Iams, Eukanuba Vet Diets
